Situla - 2500 yrs. old comic book from Slovenia
Situla is a bucket shaped vessel, which was used for rituals and celebrations. It is a culmination of a figural art created by Iron Age Human. Today it is considered as the oldest Slovenian picture, comic book. More about the precious artefacts from this part of the history, you can hear on Ljubljana TV’s program LJUBLJANA4U. We invited PhD Peter Turk, who is a curator for prehistory.
“In the real life” there are plenty of possibilities to admire Situlas stories:
We suggest you, to visit our National Museum of Slovenia where they take care of this Iron Age craft. Skilled local artisans presented interesting stories and we suggest to you, to visit it in the company of a National museum licensed guide. While on tour, the pictures from Situla and Iron man’s everyday life will become alive.
There is also a possibility to include a visit to the National Museum of Slovenia in one of our Ljubljana’s custom-made private tours . With the help of a local tourist guide, the understanding of the area will be much easier.
For those of you, who like to go to the place, where the situla was found, we suggest, to take a private, off the beaten path tour with a tour guide or a guide cum driver. 45 minutes’ drive from Ljubljana, along Sava River will bring us 100 yrs. back- to the time, when the object was found. The locals are proud of the sites and more stories will be shared with us!
However, if you would like to dig deeper in the subject of situlas, we invite you to join us on a drive along the most romantic Slovenian river Krka. We shall visit the city of Novo mesto. It is considered the capital of Situlas, since there were found quite a few of them.
