Trnovo - off the beaten path at the city door

Ljubljana - the capital of Slovenia is comparing to other capitals, with its 270 000 inhabitants, quite a small city.

Well, 100 years ago, was even smaller and had a more rural status. Today, small villages on the outskirts of the city became a part of the center. However, there are some parts of them that still managed to keep their authenticity and give us a chance to interpret the life once upon ago and today.

When in Ljubljana, you should definitely not miss the Ljubljana’s Montmartre: ex boatmen and so-called salad-women village Trnovo. The village on the Southern part of the city turned into a gathering point for different Slovenian artists. Not only that, became a home place for our prominent architect Jože Plečnik, who, together with his best neighbour, well known Slovenian writer Fran Saleški Finžgar, developed a friendly and creative atmosphere for the locals.

Trnovo is only 5 minutes walking from the car free zone city center and is actually a must for everyone, who offered her/himself to discover our lives in a “slow way”
