Ancient Roman Defense Walls in Slovenia (and Croatia)

Have you heard of Hadrian's Walls? Well, belive it or not, something like that we have also in Slovenia (and Croatia). These are late ancient roman walls, which protected the inner part of the Roman Empire.

The end of 2nd and beginning of 3rd century AD were quite turbulent years. The unknown tribes from the East wanted to enter the rich Roman Empire. Since we in today’s Slovenia have a great location between Eastern part and central part of Europe, most of the invaders went through our territory.

The roman defense system was built between Kvarner Bay in Croatia and the Alps in Slovenia and was 130 km (ca 85 miles) long.

Today the wall is not so well preserved as the mentioned Hadrian’s Wall, however it is inviting us because of its genuine appearance.

If you would like to encounter the Roman remains in the city of Ljubljana we would like you to join us on one of our city walking tours.

However, if you would like to see the remains of Roman Defense Walls in situ, we could include them on one of our city escape tours, like when visiting Postojna cave or Predjama castle

When on our off the beaten path private tour we have a chance to admire the scarce remains in deeper woods. A short car ride and light hiking will give us a pleasure to admire manmade structures and the flora and fauna surrounding the remains from 1700 years ago.

Do not hesitate, contact us and together we are going to make a perfect plan for your stay!
