Škocjan Caves and Slovenian Coast

caves coast dt 00

We set off from Ljubljana towards Škocjan, where we visit the Škocjan Caves, which classify as the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Škocjan Caves are a unique natural phenomenon, the creation of the Reka River - an around four-kilometre long gorge that ends with a magnificent wall under which the river disappears into the underground. After visiting the Škocjan Caves, we head to the village of Predjama, where majestic Predjama Castle is located. The castle is carved into a 123-metre high stone wall and a small creek Lokva vanishes into ground under the castle.

Our journey continues to the Slovenian coast, where we visit a small port town of Piran. It lies at the tip of the Piran peninsula and gives a charming impression with its narrow streets and tightly compressed houses. We also visit St. George Church, the Tartini Square, Venetian Loggia, the city harbour and more. Next, we make a stop in Portorož, a town known for its offer of entertainment and relaxation. The last stop is the Sečovlje Saltworks, the largest operating Slovenian pans. The whole area provides a shelter for many plant and animal species and is protected as a natural park.
