Idrija and Almadén received the document of inscription »Heritage of Mercury. Almadén and Idrija« on UNESCO World Heritage List

In June 2012 the »Heritage of Mercury. Almadén and Idrija« the two largest mercury mines in the world, was inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List. Inscription is one of the most important milestones of Idrija at present and for the future, because the world recognized its universal value, integrity and authenticity, and gave it an important place among the most important monuments of cultural heritage of all mankind.

At the ceremony in Idrija the representative of UNESCO Petya Totcharova stressed the importance of cooperation of two cities with such a rich and preserved mining heritage. Cooperation beyond national borders is a value that connects the people of the two cities of two countries, Slovenia and Spain.
