Ljubljana Gets Its Own Dessert: the Ljubljana Cake
The Ljubljana Cake features ingredients characteristics of all the Slovenian regions: pumpkin seeds, chestnuts, honey, buckwheat and figs. The cake was formally introduced on 8 November 2012 during the St. Martin's Day celebrations at the Ljubljana Castle. Since Ljubljana is the capital of Slovenia and the centre of activity, it is appropriate that the Ljubljana Cake brings together ingredients from various parts of the country.
Rich, moist and delectable, the cake is made without any artificial sweeteners or other additives. The Ljubljana Cake is available exclusively at Čopova 14 but will later be available at other locations across the capital as well. The project was conceived by Eva Strohmaier Ocvirk and Marjan Nemanič. Tanja Vilar developed their idea and created this divinely delicious cake. Ethnologist Dr. Janez Bogataj provided expert advice, as well as oversaw and directed the development of the cake. The Ljubljana Cake is packaged in an elegant box that can be reused for other occasions. The packaging and visual identity were designed by the Imelda Ogilvy advertising agency. In the near future, the team also plans to introduce the Ljubljana Biscuit. Made from Slovenian ingredients and suitable for a variety of occasions, it will doubtless prove popular with locals and foreign visitors alike.
